Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Sunday 29.03.2020

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in areas with newly deposited wind slabs. The avalanche danger is greatest in the areas that recieve most snow the last days.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 28. March 2020

Mountain weather

Saturday 28. March 2020

10 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Gale from northwest, changing to moderate gale from the northwest during renoon. -9 °C to -2 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 29. March 2020

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -11 °C to -4 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
